In Sri Lanka Boxing officially started in 1913 during
British colonial period & at the
same year Royal College – Colombo 07 also started Boxing as a sport. Since then
Royal college continued Boxing for students & produced champions locally
& internationally. The Royal Boxing Club was formed in late 1985 by an
enthusiastic band of former Royal College Boxers. They felt that the Club will
be an asset to Royal College boxers. In addition it would also assist Old
Royalists desirous of competing in National Meets after leaving School. A
Constitution was drawn up and the primary objective of the Club was to promote
Boxing & Physical Training among Students and Old Boys of the School. Royal
College Boys as well as Old Boys have represented the Club at Meets conducted
by the ABA of Sri Lanka. The Club has been able to provide assistance to the
School by way of Funds, Nourishment and Equipments, ect..
Since 1985 Royal Boxing Club (RBC) has been functioning
& managing under honorary office bearers elected at the annual AGM, RBC is
also a member of ROGAO (Old Royalists Groups Associations & Clubs
Organizers) which is a part of Royal College
Union.
I have been elected & appointed as the Honorary
Secretary of Royal Boxing Club at the annual AGM 2014, I am holding this
position with pride & passion to contribute something good back to my Alma matter
& to this wonderful sport, BOXING which made us confident & positive enough
to face challenges in life.
Cheers !
